
In addition to his commitment to the Steele Partners team as managing director for healthcare strategies, he is managing partner and COO/CFO for Ask4 Risk Services, LLC, a property and casualty firm which provides claims management and cost containment products to the industry. He spent over 11 years in managed health care as a senior executive responsible for regulatory compliance, operational and financial performance of all government sponsored products (Medicare, Medicaid, Family Health Plus, Child Health Plus and Worker’s Compensation) as well as dental products.
From July, 1997 until November, 2008 he occupied VP and SVP slots for Product Management at HIP Health Plan of New York. HIP merged with GHI to become Emblem Health. At various times during this period he was also given responsibility for enrollment, customer service, direct marketing and the sales force. This experience required a great deal of operational oversight.
Prior to joining HIP, Dr. Olsen was Chief of Dental Services at the Parker Jewish Geriatric Institute, where he served as President of the Medical Board for 4 terms, General Practice Residency Director and Chief of Service at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and Director of Dental Services at Hillside Hospital. These positions were held from 1979 through 1997.
He serves as a director on the boards of Health Watch Systems; Care for the Homeless and the State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine Alumni Association. Previously, he held directorships of Vytra Health Plan and the Perfect Health Insurance Company.
Dr. Olsen received his BA (History) form the City University of New York, John Jay College of Criminal Justice in 1974; DDS from SUNY at Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine in 1978 and MPA in health policy and administration from Long Island University C.W. Post College in 1985. In addition, he completed a General Practice Residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in 1979. Throughout his clinical and academic career Dr. Olsen has lectured nationally on infection control, gerontology and facilities management and has been published in pain management and dental management of the medically compromised patient.
